“Value Investing” is the underlying theme of this pioneering international investment research competition. Value investing is a well-known, time-proven investment strategy that is used globally to identify undervalued securities, both listed and unlisted. Some of the most successful investors are value investors and these include one of the world’s richest men, Warren Buffett, and investment guru, the late Benjamin Graham.
The 2025 Budding Value Investor Award (“BVIA”) is Asia’s first and only global investment research competition organised by Capital Dynamics to encourage postgraduate, undergraduate and diploma students to acquire knowledge of value investing and the benefits it offers. The competition is sponsored by Capital Dynamics and icapital.biz Berhad, a closed-end fund listed on the Main Market of Bursa Malaysia.
The 2025 Budding Value Investor Award consists of two stages: the Preliminary stage will take the form of an essay and investment research; the Final stage will require the finalists to present their investment research live on 15 November 2025 in Kuala Lumpur. Participants can participate individually or form a group of up to 3 team members and compete to win attractive cash prizes and rewards worth RM25,000.00. Accommodation and flight tickets will be sponsored and arranged by the Organiser for finalists from overseas.
The Preliminary Stage requires participants to submit a Research Paper that consists of two parts:
Part 1
“The investing style of value investing was born in 1934 by Benjamin Graham through his book, Security Analysis, during the depths of the 1929 Great Depression. With the ongoing threats of a global trade war and AI, how would you apply value investing in such an environment?”
Part 1 of your Research Paper shall not exceed 1,500 words, excluding charts, tables, references and
appendices.
Part 2
In relation to the above, choose a company listed on any stock exchanges around the world that you would recommend a Buy or Sell from a value investing point of view.
Part 2 of your Research Paper shall not exceed 5,000 words, excluding charts, tables, references and
appendices.
The Final Stage is a Presentation of Part 2 of Participants’ Research Paper. Finalists will be
invited to present their research to a panel of prominent judges. The Final Stage Presentation will
be held physically on 15 November 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. More detailed information and
procedures will be disclosed to the Finalists in due course.

The registration will close on 23 Aug 2025, at 11.59 PM Malaysia time (GMT+8).

All participants must submit their Research Paper by 23 Aug 2025, 11.59 PM Malaysia time (GMT+8) via

Capital Dynamics will announce the Finalists for the Final Stage on bvia.icapital.biz and via email on 4 Oct 2025.
Final Stage Presentation
Finalists will present their research physically in Kuala Lumpur on 15 Nov 2025.
The Budding Value Investor Award
The Budding Value Investor Award is reserved for outstanding achievements. Alongside a prestigious
cash prize of RM10,000, recipients of this prestigious award are
granted an exclusive apprenticeship opportunity under Tan Teng Boo, the
revered Managing Director of Capital Dynamics, the Designated Person of icapital.biz Berhad and Adjunct
Professor at the University of Technology Sydney.
